Haoh - Ronin 47

I had the pleasure and honour to participate to this awesome project https://www.indiegogo.com/projects/ronin-47-a-mech-vs-kaiju-ace-gamebook#/ a gamebook by legendary author Jonathan Green of Fighting Fantasy fame, and now it features this artwork among other awesome pieces.
When I was given carte blanche to design and depict a samurai style mecha, I thought it would be a cool chance to homage the beautiful japanese ukiyo-e art by taking inspiration from Hokusai's Wave off Kanagawa and other prints from the era. They often sport a small panel with a secondary character, as well as some writing, so on I went and took that as inspiration, as well as the overall style. This is the result. The second picture is a more "traditional" digital drawing of the pilot from this mecha, Haoh, or the King of the Waves.
